Is Invisalign The Right Option For You?

Invisalign is a series of clear aligners that are worn over the teeth to gradually shift them into place. Is Invisalign the right option for you? The aligners are custom made for every patient, and each one is worn for approximately two weeks before progressing to the next aligner. Patients will be instructed to wear the aligners for at least 20-22 hours each day, taking them out only to eat, drink, brush, and floss.

What Are Invisalign’s Benefits?

  • Discreet treatment. Invisalign aligners are made of clear plastic, making them difficult to see, especially from a distance. You can straighten your teeth without anyone ever knowing.

  • Comfortable treatment. Invisalign aligners are custom-made to fit your mouth. They also use SmartTrack material, a thermoplastic material that moves your teeth in small increments, so your teeth are gently moved into their ideal position.

  • Better oral hygiene. Invisalign aligners are removable. You can take them out to eat, drink, and brush your teeth. This makes it much easier for you to maintain good oral hygiene.

What Issues Can Invisalign Correct?

Invisalign can correct most orthodontic issues. In fact, it’s designed for patients of all ages, including teens. Whether your teen is self-conscious about their smile or needs to correct malocclusion, Invisalign can help.

The benefit of using Invisalign to correct orthodontic issues is that your teen won’t need to wear metal brackets and wires. Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners that sit over your teen’s teeth. The aligners are removable, so your teen can take them out to eat and brush and floss their teeth.

How Do I Get Started With Invisalign?

Invisalign is a great treatment option for many patients. However, Invisalign may not be the right treatment for everyone. Patients considering Invisalign should first schedule a consultation with a dental professional. During the consultation, the dentist will thoroughly examine the teeth, gums, and jaw. The dentist will also assess the current condition of the teeth and decide whether or not Invisalign is a good treatment option.

After consulting with your dentist, he or she will most likely recommend Invisalign to treat your Invisalign issue. First, your dentist will take scans and measurements of your teeth, which Invisalign will use to create a digital 3-D image. From this image, your dentist will be able to map out your treatment plan, which will show the exact movements of your teeth at each phase of treatment.

Once your dentist has mapped out your treatment plan, he or she will send the specifications to Invisalign, who will then make your custom-made aligners.

Cost Of Invisalign

Although the cost of Invisalign varies on a case-by-case basis, the treatment is comparable in price to traditional braces. Factors that will affect how much your treatment will cost include:

  • How many aligners you need (one or several)

  • How often you’ll need to change out your aligners (every two weeks or every 2-4 weeks)

  • Which treatment you are receiving (Invisalign Teen or Invisalign Express)

How Do I Care For My Invisalign Aligners?

Your Invisalign aligners are easy to clean! Simply brush them every night with toothpaste, and then rinse them off in the morning. Go over your aligners with water or a denture cleaning tablet once a week to keep them fresh.

Invisalign aligners are made out of a smooth, comfortable, BPA-free plastic that allows your aligners to slide on and off your teeth easily.

Invisalign Treatment Vs. Metal Braces

Invisalign treatment vs. metal braces and the added benefits. Whether you have crooked teeth, overcrowding, gaps between your teeth, underbite or overbite, clear braces are a great alternative with a couple of added benefits.

Invisalign aligners are clear plastic trays that fit over your teeth and can be removed at any time.

Align Technology, the creators of Invisalign, was founded in 1997 by Zia Chishti and Kelsey. They created invisible aligners as an alternative to metal braces. The aligners are custom-made and overtime gently shift the teeth into their proper position. Though the length of treatment varies between patients, people generally get a new set of aligners about every two weeks until the treatment is completed.

Overall Health

Invisalign treatment is more than just a smart option for straightening your teeth. Studies have shown that people who have properly aligned teeth are more apt to have healthier teeth and gums. Misaligned teeth tend to trap food, causing bacteria to form which leads to cavities and more serious health issues such as gum disease and bad breath.

Show Me That Smile

Another benefit is a great smile. During the treatment you’ll see beautiful results. As the aligners gently move your teeth into a proper position your smile will grow bigger and brighter. Having a very confident and satisfying smile is a wonderful way to boost one’s self-image.

Weight Loss

Next is the weight loss factor. Afternoon snacks just aren’t the same, and thoughtless eating becomes a thing of the past because one stipulation with the aligners is that every time you eat, you have to brush.  So, not only are the aligners encouraging you to eat smarter but you’ve become a devoted brusher and flosser.

Pain-Free

Lastly, the treatment is painless. Invisalign does not hurt. There is no tightening of metal braces followed by days of liquid food and aspirin. There may be times where you can’t eat hard candy or raw carrots with the aligners but it’s a walk in the park compared to having a metal mouth.
