Happy National Dental Care Month, how long has it been since your last appointment?  Do you know dental hygiene is important to your oral and overall health?  If it has been longer than six months since your last visit to the dentist, National Dental Care Month is a great reminder to schedule an appointment with Dr. Abeyta and her team.  They can help you maintain peak oral health.

Visit Twice a Year

The American Dental Association recommends that you visit your dentist every six months for cleanings and checkups.

Though regular checkups serve many purposes, two of the main reasons are:

  • It allows the dentist to detect early signs of oral health conditions, preventing a minor issue from becoming a major issue.
  • It keeps teeth clean and free from tartar and plaque which can lead to gum disease.

Note: Typically, dental insurance companies will cover the cost of two visits per year, including yearly x-rays. Dental insurance companies recognize regular checkups and cleanings can go a long way to preventing serious issues. Regular checkups also help us to preserve the teeth we have.

Daily Oral Routine

Implementing a daily routine for you and your family can build a strong foundation in maintaining a healthy, and attractive smile.

It is recommended to:

  • Brush after every meal with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
  • Floss at least once a day in between every tooth, from root to crown.
  • Floss before you brush. Studies have shown that this pattern helps to remove more plaque, particles, and bacteria than flossing after you brush your teeth.
  • If you have eaten an acidic food such as citrus fruit or soda, it is important to wait 30 minutes before brushing to allow enamel time to harden.

Daily routines will help prevent issues such as infection and tooth decay but alone cannot keep your teeth and gums optimally healthy. This is where your dentist comes in!
