Are all dental lasers the same and safe?

While there are many kinds of dental lasers, most work on the same basic principle. Lasers remove diseased tissue, while cauterizing the blood vessels to promote healthy tissue and reduce bleeding. Some lasers are multi-functional and can be used for multiple procedures.
When lasers were first developed in the 1960s, patients didn’t fully understand how the lasers worked. Therefore, doctors didn’t always explain to patients how lasers could benefit them, and many patients believed lasers to be unsafe. Today, laser dentistry is widely recognized as a safe and effective alternative to dental drills.
